A word from Mogu’s CEO

A brief outline of what Mogu is setting out to achieve and how it's going to revolutionise the internet

Hello,

Let me introduce you to Mogu.

Mogu has three big ambitions: We want to disrupt the server-space, we want to democratise data and we want to make the internet more affordable and accessible.

I think you’ll agree that this all sounds very nice, but what does it really mean?

Mogu will disrupt the server space

At the moment, the global server infrastructure is run by a handful of very powerful companies. They make very healthy returns from the structure that they’ve helped to create, but there are three problems:

  1. High entry barrier: Traditional server-based solutions are capital intensive, costly to maintain, complex to manage and hard to scale. This could exclude innovation
  2. Significant carbon footprint: the current infrastructure has a voracious appetite for power to keep it cool and requires a constant, expensive, environmentally negative upgrade cycle
  3. Excludes smaller players: Only the very largest organisations can afford to access servers and analyse data in detail

Mogu is taking advantage of the 18 hours each day that the average domestic router is sitting idle, using this latent capacity to create a distributed server network. This will have a far lower barrier to entry because we’ll remove the need for extensive domestic hardware. It will also massively reduce the carbon footprint because it’s taking advantage of infrastructure that already exists.

Mogu will democratise data

In turn this will mean that we can offer big data and internet infrastructure services at a significantly lower price, making it possible for a far broader spectrum of global organisations, SMEs, governments and research communities to glean insights into their businesses, their economies and even the world around us.

The bottom line is that over the last few years, everyone’s been talking about Big Data so much that it can start to feel like it’s a whole lot of hype. In reality, Big Data is enabling us to make massive changes to the way we live. For example, it’s helping us understand people flow around a public spaces and spot small improvements that are having a big impact on our shared spaces. Big data is also helping us develop and analyse new medicines, predict earthquakes and understand the cosmos in far greater detail than ever before.

Enhanced data analysis is also helping us understand our customers better. At the moment that’s helping big companies rapidly build loyalty, but wouldn’t it be great if that knowledge could be analysed more widely? Wouldn’t it be better if there was a more level playing field where companies of all sizes could innovate and grow?

It’s estimated that we only analyse around 3% of the total data that’s collected because it’s too expensive to dig any deeper. Despite this, the insights that have been made over the last few years have been phenomenal. Imagine what could be achieved when Mogu makes it economically viable to dig deeper…

Mogu will make the internet more affordable and accessible

It’s all very well talking about how Mogu is going to disrupt the incumbent infrastructure oligopoly, dramatically reduce the internet’s carbon footprint, make companies better at selling things and help unlock the secrets of the universe, but what’s in it for you?

The short answer is that Mogu is going to make the internet more affordable and that in turn is going to make it possible for more people to use it.

Mogu Smart Routers know when they are not being used domestically and add their processing power to the Mogu distributed server network so that different tasks can be carried out. At no point do our smart routers access your domestic hardware or personal data, they simply take advantage of unused processing capacity within the router.

In return, home users will receive Mogu Tokens, a form of cryptocurrency that is backed by the value of our technology. The companies that use our data services will also be paying in Mogu Tokens, so there will be a healthy demand that will immunise our tokens from the volatility that has challenged some cryptocurrencies over the last few months.

Domestic users will be able to spend their tokens on a variety of products and services with Mogu’s growing community of partners. We have also built in a gaming acceleration aspect to the system that will enable gamers to spend their tokens and enjoy their games with less lagging.

What this means is that the real cost of the internet will fall because your router will become a revenue generating piece of hardware. As a result, more people will be able to afford to access the internet, unlocking it’s potential as a tool for education and development.

So as you can see, we have set ourselves lofty ambitions, but we’ve created a technology that’s been beta tested with 5,000 users and we have production and distribution agreements in place with some of the biggest names in the router industry.

The structure of the internet is unsustainable and deeply flawed. We are going to fix that.
